Jewelry Care
Sterling silver is a fantastic, long-lasting material that creates a beautiful, reflective shine. This metal naturally oxidizes over time, but regular polishing keeps your pieces feeling brand new. Oxidation is natural, and some find this patina part of silvers allure! Silver is also an extremely soft metal, and may scratch or dent easily, so be sure to care for it with a soft cloth and proper storage for lasting adornment.
Here are a few tips for keeping your sterling pieces looking clean and beautiful.
1. Polish your jewelry regularly using our non-abrasive cleaning cloth. For more intense cleaning, use our non-toxic Liquid Gem & Jewelry Cleaner. Jewelry can also be cleaned using soap and water, but avoid drying your pieces with paper towels or tissue. Silver should always be dried using a soft cloth.
2. Jewelry is best stored in an anti-tarnish bag and wrapped in a soft cloth. Small zip-loc style bags work as well. Jewelry should be stored away from heat and moisture to maintain it's shine.
3. Exposing your silver jewelry to chlorine, salt water, mineral springs or suntan lotion will lead to extreme tarnish and discoloration. Don't worry! Tarnishing is only on the surface and can be cleaned; but can be difficult and time consuming to remove when exposed to these conditions.
4. We do not recommend using dip cleaners. These methods are abrasive and can damage your jewelry's gemstones, pearls, or anti-tarnish coating.
5. If your jewelry contains gemstones or pearls, do not immerse in water, as this can loosen some settings. Never use dips or abrasive cleaners on gemstones.
Enjoy your jewelry!
